Successful ISO certification for the Swiss business software specialist

Codex meets highest standards placed on quality management

Eighteen months of intensive work, self-critical revisions and radical optimisation of all business processes have paid off. The ISO 9001-2008 certification of the Codex Group including Codex Information Systems AG in Münchenstein, Codex Business Systems AG and Actricity AG in Rotkreuz, and Codex Information Systems France in Illzach has been successfully completed.

The TQMi project (Total Quality Management in the IT field) was the largest organisational project undertaken within the company to date. More than 20 business processes were completely redesigned and the time and effort to do this amounted to several man-years.

One reason for becoming certified was the desire to consistently improve customer satisfaction. For Michel Henlin, co-owner of the Codex Group and head of the TQMi project, this strategic step was essential in order to increase quality and efficiency in the areas of sales, product development and services. "Traditionally, our business culture tends to be casual and individual, so it was quite the task to build regulated and documented processes into the company,“ he commented.

The employees’ desire for more structure in the company and a better use of their individual potential also played a decisive role. “Naturally, our employees are very proud of their performance. Reaching a target is an important milestone on the road to excellence and a significant criterion for the sustainable success of our company,” Henlin declared with conviction.

The audit was carried out by the Swiss TS Technical Services AG “in a pleasant and respectful atmosphere in which all topics could be discussed in an open-ended manner,” emphasised Hans Halstrick, director of Quality Management Systems Certification at SWISSTS. “We were especially impressed by the high degree of organisation within the company group.” The following points in particular stood out among the positive feedback:

  • “Good knowledge of processes and very competent disclosure during the audit”
  • “Use of Actricity to further develop software products and to fix bugs”
  • “Strict guidelines for development”
  • “Customer value strategy for customers considered ‘strategic’ and ‘forward-looking’”
  • “FIT and SWOT analyses during acquisitions”
  • “Risk management during projects”

The ISO 9001 norm describes the requirements placed on the entire quality management and thus forms the framework within which operations in the Codex Group companies will be optimally focused on achieving objectives.

With more than one million organisations certified to date, the ISO 9001 standard is the quality management system most often used worldwide. In Switzerland, approximately 15,000 – or 5% – of all companies are currently certified.
